The Maui Bicycling League will host a nonpartisan gathering Sept. 12 featuring bicycle rides and a discussion with candidates seeking county and state offices representing West Maui.

In addition to a bike ride, the event will feature a gathering focused on the future of West Maui's transportation network, including In the Honoapiilani Highway realignment, Lahaina Bypass extension, Keawe Street safety improvements, Lower Honoapiilani Road improvements and West Maui Greenway.

Participants may choose from three rides, including a 32.4-mile route, a 13.6-mile ride and a shorter community ride along the newly reopened portion of Front Street, beginning at Fork & Salad Lahaina.

Participants will gather at Fork & Salad Lahaina at about 10:30 a.m. for brunch and a conversation with candidates in the November election. Candidates may join any of the rides or attend only the brunch and discussion.

The two longer routes are intended for intermediate and advanced riders who can maintain an average speed of 12 to 14 mph. E-bikes are welcome. Bicycles will not be provided. Helmets are required.

Brunch is complimentary for Maui Bicycling League members. Nonmembers may attend with a donation.
