Sabers boys, girls on target early in MIL air riflery season

The Maui High boys and girls air riflery teams swept the team titles for the second consecutive meet Sept. 5 at the Izumi "Shine" Matsui Athletic Center.
The Maui High girls finished with 1,021 points, improving by five points from their victory in a meet Aug. 28-29. The Sabers boys also saw improvement on the scorecard, recoring 1,013 points, which was a 12-point improvement from their victory the week before.
Maui High displayed its depth by placing six boys and five girls among the top 10 individual finishers in their respective divisions.
Hannah Cabebe led the Maui High girls with 271 points, the highest score by any shooter in the meet. Cabebe also led the girls division Aug. 28-29 and improved on her score by seven points.
Kison Lee and Isaac Kondo each scored 256 to lead the Maui High boys, placing second and fourth, respectively. Teammates Aeden Cu, Dallas Bayez, Jayse Miyagawa and Brody Molina also finished among the top 10.
King Kekaulike's Blake Yatsushiro remained the MIL's top boys shooter, winning the individual competition with 259 points. Yatsushiro also won the previous meet with a score of 266.
Baldwin finished second in both team competitions. The Bears boys improved by 74 points from the previous meet, scoring 955 to move ahead of King Kekaulike, which placed third with 930. Izea Takafuji led Baldwin with 256 points.
Baldwin's girls scored 1,002, finishing 19 points behind Maui High.
Seabury Hall's Taylor Ota posted one of the meet's largest individual improvements, raising her score from 222 to 252 and moving from 20th to third among the girls.
