Maui County's Special Fair Day will return Oct. 2, offering community members with disabilities an opportunity to enjoy the fair in an accessible setting.
The private event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the War Memorial Special Events Complex. About 2,000 participants are expected.
The event is open to people with intellectual, developmental, physical, mobility, sensory and communication disabilities, as well as those who are deaf or hard of hearing, blind or have low vision, autistic or otherwise neurodivergent.
"Special Fair Day has always been such a meaningful tradition for our community," said Kate Ducheneau, accessibility and inclusion chair for Maui County Fair Special Fair Day. "We want families and individuals to feel that someone thought about their 'ohana before they ever walked through the gate."
Organizers are seeking volunteers to welcome guests, assist with registration, provide directions, support activities and help distribute meals and prizes. Disability-services experience is not required for general volunteer positions, and training will be provided.
