Two Maui County educators are among 16 public and charter school teachers named Hawaii's 2027 Complex Area and Charter School Teachers of the Year.
Troy "Leven" Abshire Jr. of Makawao Elementary School was selected to represent the Baldwin-Kekaulike-Kulanihako'i-Maui Complex Area.
Robert Livermore of King Kamehameha III Elementary School was selected for the Hana-Lahainaluna-Lanai-Molokai Complex Area.
The awards recognize excellence in the classroom, commitment to students and contributions to school communities, according to the Hawaii Department of Education.
The 16 educators will be honored Sept. 21 at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii. One will be selected as the 2027 Hawaii State Teacher of the Year and represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year program.

The state program recognizes educators from a public school teaching workforce of more than 13,000.
