Visitor industry golf tournament raises $69,176

The Maui Hotel and Lodging Association's 29th annual Excellence in Education Golf Tournament raised $69,176 for education and workforce development programs.
Thirty-six teams representing hotels and other hospitality businesses participated in the Aug. 21 tournament at Wailea Golf Club's Blue Course. An awards luncheon followed at Manoli's Restaurant.
Proceeds will benefit the Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, a nonprofit that supports the Maui Junior Golf Association, provides scholarships for high school graduates and University of Hawaii Maui College students and funds workforce development programs.
"Helping younger generations to find their path in life is such a rewarding cause," said Aaron Placourakis, owner of Manoli's and AMP Restaurants. "The visitor industry is a great place to start a career and find community."
Wailea Golf Club's Gold Team finished first, followed by Cooling Systems Maui, Market Advantage, Four Seasons Wailea, Sheraton Maui Team 2, Blue Hawaiian Activities, Sheraton Maui Team 1, Berlien & Co., Wailea Golf Club's Sponsor Team and Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.
