Volunteers sought for Haleakala backcountry trip Oct. 9-12

The Friends of Haleakala National Park is seeking volunteers for a three-night backcountry service trip in Haleakala National Park from Oct. 9-12.

Participants will hike more than 21 miles and stay at Paliku Patrol Cabin. Projects may include removing invasive plants, collecting native seeds, clearing trails and maintaining the cabin.

The trip is free, although participants will share some dinner costs. Volunteers must be at least 18, in excellent physical condition and able to carry their own backpacking gear, clothing and food across rugged terrain and steep elevation changes.
