Girl Scouts of Hawaii has launched a workforce development program to introduce high school girls to career opportunities through hands-on experiences with local businesses and industries.
The program, called Girls In….., will give participants eight to 10 weeks of exposure to industries such as health care, finance, real estate and construction. Activities will include workplace visits, meetings with employees and business leaders, practical skills training and opportunities to connect with internships and jobs.
Girl Scouts of Hawaii has established preliminary partnerships with three companies for the program, which the organization says is the first of its kind for Girl Scouts nationwide.
"Our goal is for girls to walk away understanding there is a place for them to work in Hawai'i, even if they decide to go to the continent for college, and give them the exposure to a variety of industries and companies they can work in and for," said Girl Scouts of Hawai'i CEO Dr. Kanoe Nāone.
Participants must be registered Girl Scouts members. For more information or to join, visit GSHawaii.org. Businesses interested in partnering with Girl Scouts of Hawaii to offer career experiences through the program can email knaone@gshawaii.org.
