Group plans protest against speed bumps Monday

1 min read

Safe Roads Maui is organizing a protest from 7 to 8 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, outside the Maui County Building at 200 S. High St. in Wailuku, calling for the removal of speed bumps on county roads.

The group contends that speed bumps create safety hazards, delay emergency vehicles and increase travel times. It also questions whether the county followed its own rules when installing speed bumps on roads such as Kokomo, Kaluanui and Haliimaile.

Safe Roads Maui is calling for the removal of existing speed bumps and consideration of alternatives such as flashing crosswalk lights, speed cameras and increased traffic enforcement.
