A free community celebration marking the 25th anniversary of Kamaole Point Park in Kihei will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17.
The park, located between Kamaole Beach Parks II and III, opened in 2001 following a three-year community effort led by Buck Joiner to transform a former junkyard into a public park.
The celebration will feature music, food, historical presentations, proclamations and a native planting project. The event will also recognize Joiner’s contributions to the park’s creation.
Parking will be available across South Kihei Road at Keonekai Road and at Kamaole Beach Park III.
The event is co-sponsored by the Kihei Community Association, Sierra Club Maui Group and Maui Tomorrow Foundation.
