Updates on efforts to rebuild King Kamehameha III Elementary School are on the agenda for the next Lahaina Community Meeting on Oct. 7.
The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Lahaina Intermediate School cafeteria. Other topics include upcoming work on the Lahaina Royal Complex restoration and information about the November general election, including how to update voter registration.
The Maui County Office of Recovery also will provide updates on the county's Housing Navigator Program and information shared at a recent commercial property workshop. The county also will discuss a new recovery directive meant to streamline Special Management Area permitting for qualified reconstruction makai of Front Street.
Representatives from several departments and agencies will be available at resource tables following a question-and-answer session at the end of the meeting. They include the Maui County Office of Recovery, Department of 'Ōiwi Resources, Department of Planning and Housing Navigator Program; 4LEAF; Hawaii School Facilities Authority; Hawaiian Electric Co.; and Hoʻōla iā Mauiakama Disaster Long Term Recovery Group.
The Lahaina Community Meeting, usually conducted on the first Wednesday of each month, also will be livestreamed on Maui County's Facebook page. A Facebook account is not required to view the meeting. The meeting also will be broadcast on Akakū: Maui Community Media, Channel 53.
