Lahaina Town Cleanup rescheduled for Saturday

2 min read

The 22nd annual Lahaina Town Cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 10, after the event was postponed from Sept. 26 because of Hurricane Nolo.

The free community cleanup is open to residents, visitors, families, students, businesses, community organizations and other volunteers.

Volunteers will gather for registration at Lahaina Cannery, 1221 Honoapiilani Highway, before heading to cleanup sites from Olowalu to Napili, including beaches, parks, surf spots, boat harbors, roadways and neighborhoods.

For more than two decades, volunteers participating in the cleanup have helped care for more than seven square miles of the Lahaina community.

"This cleanup is really about everyone coming together to take care of Lāhainā," said Tambara Garrick, event organizer with the LāhaināTown Action Committee. "Whether you live here, are visiting, need volunteer hours, are coming with your family or simply want to lend a hand, everyone is welcome. Every person who participates makes a difference."

The cleanup is being held in conjunction with the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup and Mālama Maui Nui's Get the Drift and Bag It! campaign.

The first 300 volunteers will receive an event T-shirt sponsored by Maui Building Source. Coffee and breakfast burritos sponsored by Pizza Paradiso will be available while supplies last. Tropic Water will provide a water refill station, and DJ Ron will provide music.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle, gloves and reef-safe sunscreen.
