Maui County election officials are reminding voters to watch for official notifications about their mail ballots, particularly if an issue needs to be corrected before their vote can be counted in the Nov. 3 general election.
Registered voters with email addresses on file will automatically receive notifications when their ballot packages are mailed, received and accepted for counting, or if a problem with their ballot return envelope needs to be addressed.
Common issues include missing signatures or signatures that do not match those on file.
"A top priority for our office is contacting voters immediately when a ballot envelope deficiency is identified," Maui County Clerk Moana M. Lutey said. "We mail the required notice with instructions and a postage-paid return envelope, email, and call voters. So, if voters receive communication from our office, please don't ignore it. We are doing our best to ensure your vote is counted."
Voters have until 4:30 p.m. Nov. 10 to submit the required documentation to correct ballot deficiencies.
Depending on the issue, voters may need to complete and sign an affidavit or provide proof of identity, such as a copy of a government-issued photo ID. Computer-generated signatures will not be accepted.
Completed documentation may be submitted by email to County.Clerk@mauicounty.us or delivered or mailed to the Office of the County Clerk, Elections Division, Kalana O Maui, seventh floor, 200 S. High St., Wailuku, HI 96793. Documentation must be received by the deadline.
Voters who have already corrected an issue may disregard subsequent notices.
