Two Maui men in their mid-20s were rescued Thursday morning after becoming separated from their group while kayaking outside Kahului Harbor.
Maui County Department of Fire and Public Safety crews responded at 8:25 a.m. to a U.S. Coast Guard report of two missing kayakers.
Ocean Safety officers at Kanaha spotted the men near the "3-mile buoy" outside Kahului Harbor and directed rescue crews to their location.
The kayakers were unable to paddle back to shore because of strong winds, so a Coast Guard vessel picked up both men, while Ocean Safety officers aboard rescue watercraft retrieved their kayaks and returned them to shore.
No injuries were reported.
Maui firefighters responded with Engine 1 and Rescue 10 aboard Air 1. Ocean Safety units JS10a and JS10b and the Coast Guard also participated in the rescue.
The incident concluded at 11:50 a.m.
