U.S. Rep. Ed Case, D-Hawaii, has been named a "Franchise Champion" by the International Franchise Association for his support of franchise businesses and small businesses.
The association said Hawaii has more than 2,800 franchise locations employing nearly 30,000 people and generating more than $3 billion in annual revenue.
Case cited taxes, regulations and high operating costs among the challenges facing small businesses in Hawaii.
The association said franchise businesses nationwide account for more than 832,000 establishments, nearly 8.8 million direct jobs and about $907.3 billion in economic output.
Case also received a Special Congressional Award from the Small Business Council of America in 2023 for his support of federal small-business programs.
