The Lahainaluna Boarders Association is being honored for its continued support of the school’s boarding program. Led by Craig Murakami and Eddie Espiritu, both boarding graduates from the Class of 1971, the association brings together alumni volunteers and supporters to assist current boarders.
The association’s efforts include maintaining campus orchards, helping with the liming of the school’s iconic “L” and supporting boarding traditions and activities.

Tanya (Miyasaki) Arakawa
Arakawa, a 1968 Lahainaluna graduate and retired nurse, is being recognized for her longtime volunteer service to the school and community. Her siblings, daughters and grandson also are Lahainaluna graduates. She has volunteered at athletic, school and community events over the years.

Alan Yamamoto
Yamamoto, a former Lahainaluna boarder from Molokai and military veteran, is being honored for his dedication to the school’s boarding community. He returned to work with the boarding program and retired as its yard foreman.
Yamamoto also is known for creating a shoreline rock garden at Ukumehame near Olowalu as a tribute to Lahaina and Lahainaluna High School. The project began with his efforts to remove trash near a favorite fishing spot.

Daryl Fujiwara
Fujiwara, a 2001 Lahainaluna graduate, is being recognized for his community service and leadership in organizing cultural celebrations and community events. His work includes serving as executive director of Maui Festivals of Aloha and director of the Maui County Fair.
