A 58-year-old Kahului man was found guilty Thursday of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with intent to distribute the drug.

According to U.S. Attorney Ken Sorenson, a jury convicted Christopher Grindling at the end of a three-day trial in U.S. District Court in Honolulu. His sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 25 before Judge Leslie E. Kobayashi.

According to court documents, Grindling was identified during an online law enforcement operation targeting individuals seeking sex with minors. During the operation, Grindling offered drugs and cash to an undercover officer in exchange for sex through a popular dating application.

Maui Police Department officers subsequently executed a search warrant at Grindling’s home and found approximately 113 grams of methamphetamine, hundreds of small plastic baggies and a digital scale.

Grindling faces 10 years to life in prison, a fine of up to $10 million and at least five years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations and the Maui Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gregg Paris Yates and Arisa R. Herman are prosecuting the case.
