A 56-year-old California woman died and a 53-year-old Texas woman was hospitalized in critical condition after they were pulled from the water Wednesday morning at Koki Beach in East Maui. Maui Fire Department crews responded to the ocean rescue at 10:16 a.m. after receiving reports that one unresponsive person had been pulled from the water while another remained unresponsive in the ocean. Gov. Josh Green signed measures seeking to set up new controls for artificial intelligence, commonly known as AI. One of the bills targets what is referred to as “deepfake” technology, which enables the digital imitation of an individual’s voice, face or likeness.
