A Grand Canyon river rafting guide who aimed to become the first American woman to row across the mid-Pacific solo has completed a record-breaking journey from California to Hawaii. Hundreds gathered to cheer on Kelsey Pfendler as she pulled into a Honolulu harbor Friday night on her 21-foot row boat, Lily, after nearly a month and a half at sea, local media reported. A benefit concert organized by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Lukas Nelson raised $256,000 for Maui Health Foundation’s Housing for Healthcare initiative, the foundation announced. “Lōkahi: A Celebration of Maui” was held Jan. 10 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center and featured Nelson, Mick Fleetwood, Patrick Simmons, Stephen Wilson Jr., Lily Meola, the Maui Country Band and others, with Paul Simon appearing as the closing act.
