County urges hurricane preparedness as season begins
Maui County officials are urging residents and visitors to prepare for hurricane season, which runs through Nov. 30. The National Weather Service is forecasting an above-normal season in the Central Pacific basin, including Hawaii, with a 70% chance of above-normal activity. Forecasters expect between five and 13 tropical cyclones, including tropical depressions, tropical storms and hurricanes.
