Richard “Speedy” Sato, 76
Richard Fujio Sato, 76, of Pukalani rode off into his final sunset on May 17, 2016. Some would think he was born on the back of a Harley, but his ordinary birth was on June 4, 1939 in Paia to Take and Yonekichi Sato. Growing up in Kaheka, Paia, he learned that life was hard and slow, so decided instead to opt for anything with speed. Maui High School classmates called him “Speedy” for his love for anything fast. His passion for wind on his face and the roar of an engine beneath him brought him to the love of his life, the Harley Davidson.
Besides his bikes and fast cars, Richard also devoted his life to his wife, Charlotte; children, Shane K. Sato (Nayeli), Jody-Lynn K. Glickman, and Burt F. Sato; siblings, James Sato (Martha), Patsy Ota, Herbert Sato (Akemi), Stanley Sato, and Julia Libby. His grandchildren will also carry on his legacy: Jacob Coelho, Avtalya Glickman, Aryeh Akiva Glickman, Miri Glickman, Isabella Sato, Andrew Sato, and Aileen Sato.
Richard retired as an instrument technician from HC&S Company in 2001.
Visitation will be held on his birthday, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Nakamura Mortuary in Wailuku from 10:00am-12:00pm with a service at 12:00pm and lunch to follow.
