Sugiko Gushiken, 95
Sugiko Gushiken, 95, of Wailuku, died September 12, 2016 at Hale Makua Kahului.
Mrs. Gushiken was born in Wailuku, in the village of Waikapu, on November 13, 1920. She retired as a Glove Room Clerk for Maui Pineapple Cannery and had been a member of Iao Congregational Church (UCC) since 1954. She was also an avid golfer following her retirement and was always busy caring for her grandchildren or doing her arts and crafts prior to the progression of Alzheimer’s.
Sugiko was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Jack Kojin Gushiken. She is survived by two sons, Mark (Lei) Gushiken of Hilo and Wayne (Jill) Gushiken of Kahului; a daughter, Lynn Krieg of Wailuku; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Iao United Church of Christ on September 28, 2016. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a service at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow. Urn burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Makawao. The family requests casual attire. Nakamura Mortuary will be assisting in funeral arrangements.
