Frank A. Alameda, Jr., 80, a native of Maui, Hawaii, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, in New Albany, Indiana. Frank was born on November 14, 1936, in Lahaina, Maui County, Territory of Hawaii to Gen. Frank A. Alameda, Sr. (Ret.), and Lilly K. (Apo) Alameda. He graduated from Baldwin High School in Wailuku, Maui, and attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Frank served in the United States Army, with most of his service time spent in Stuttgart, Germany, where he was also a member of the U.S. Army European Soccer Team. While on the team, he helped them become the 1959-60 All Europe CISM Champions. Following his honorable discharge in 1960, Frank was recruited to play for the German National Soccer Team and remained in Germany for a number of years. After returning to Maui, he joined the staff of the then U.S. Representative Spark Matsunaga of Hawaii and later worked for the U.S. State Department, assigned to the African Desk. He was a member of the Wailuka Union Church in Maui, the United States Golf Association, the Golf Writers Association of America, and former member of the Adventurer's Club of Honolulu.
A lover of all sports and a player of many, Frank was an avid golfer, starting in the 1980's, and he took great pleasure in playing courses throughout the United States and Europe. He courageously fought a long battle with cancer and in later years with Alzheimer's Disease, a disease that robbed him of many great memories but never totally took away the loving and cherished memories of Hawaii.
Frank is survived by his son, Damien Alameda of Arizona; sister, Netta Paulson of Maryland; several nieces and one nephew; his dear friend of 25 years, Helen Humes of Louisville, Kentucky; and several cousins, many living in Hawaii.

Cremation was chosen following Frank's wishes. He will be laid to rest on his native island of Maui in the Maui Veteran's Cemetery at a later date.
