James “Bud” Tharp, 73
James “Bud” Tharp, 73, passed peacefully away April 21st at his “shack” in Kula, Hawaii surrounded by loved ones.
James was born February 27th, 1944 in Corpus Christie, Texas. After graduating high school James headed for Alaska to embrace his adventurous side, an accomplished pilot and hunter, and above all his biggest adventure was taking on five stepchildren as his own.
In the 1980s he moved to Maui and started his own carpentry business where he met most of his closest friends.
James was also a Vietnam War veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Cleo Tharp and his son Scott Haylor and his former wife Jaqueline Watson.
He is survived by his sister Betty (George) Harrison and brother Jim (Teresa) Tharp both of Texas
His sons Rick Haylor, Bill (Gina) Haylor, Brett Haylor and his daughter Jayme Lane, 11 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Also very important in his life were Bill Lane and Sue Haylor and great friend Nalani Archibeque.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on June 11 at “the shack” located at 50 Pilikino Rd., Kula.
In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to be made for the care of his beloved animals Nita, Mr. Chu II and Annie.
