James Chokichi Sakugawa, 97 of Kula passed away on June 7, 2017 at his home in Kula. He was born in Wailuku, on August 11, 1919. He was a retired cattle rancher and hog farmer, and a partner of James C Sakugawa & Sons.
Visitation will be held at Ballard Family Mortuary in Kahului on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 10:00am-11:00 am with a prayer service at 11:00 am, and burial to follow at Maui Memorial Park in Wailuku at 2:00pm.
James is survived by his wife, Jinny (Kang) Sakugawa, sons, Ronald (Stephanie), Jerry (Elsie), and Eric Sakugawa, daughters, Carol (David) Chang, Evelyn Sakugawa, and step daughter, In-Sun Lee; 8 grandchildren, Karsha (Andrew) Chang Tsukahira , Jason (Jodi) Chang, Jamie (Jared) Phillips, and Scott, Troy, Jolynn, and "JC" Sakugawa, and Lindsay Kido; and 6 great-grandchildren, Remy, Kaya, Karter, Kylie, Chance, and Callie; brother, George (Florence) Sakugawa, and sisters Laurie (Ed) Chang, and Sue Sakaguchi. He was predeceased by wife, Jane (Ishikawa) Sakugawa.
