Alan Takeda, 69, of Kahului died Friday, November 24, 2017 after a short illness.
Alan was born on June 5, 1948 to Henry and Rose Takeda in Wahiawa, Oahu. He was a graduate of Leileihua High School and the University of Hawaii. He moved to Maui after serving in the U.S. Army, and worked in a variety of fields, including computer and office machine repair, telecommunications on Haleakala, and various social service organizations. He retired from Children's Protective Services (CPS) as an investigator.
He was generous with his time, teaching firearms safety and handling, and volunteering at Hawaii Animal Rescue Foundation (HARF) and the Maui Friends of the Library book store, among others.
Alan had a large number of interests, ranging from target shooting, animal welfare, music, guitars, movies, knife and watch making, and composing haiku. He had a wide circle of friends from each interest.
Alan is survived by his brother Brian and his wife, and his mother, Rose.
A potluck celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the Maui Friends of the Library bookstore in Queen Kaahumanu Shopping Center. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to HARF, the Maui Friends of the Library, or Hospice Maui.
