Nancy Kikuye (Sakamoto) Nitta, 88
Nancy Kikuye (Sakamoto) Nitta of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on April 28, 2018 at Hale Makua in Wailuku. She was born in Lahaina on December 21, 1929 to Eitaro and Chise Sakamoto.
Nancy graduated from Lahainaluna High School, and received degrees in Physical Education and Elementary Education from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She returned to Maui after graduating and taught at various Maui elementary schools, including Puukolii School, Kamehameha III School , Puunene School and Wailuku Elementary School. After retiring from the DOE, Nancy and her husband, Toshi, spent many hours doing genealogy, playing golf, and making frequent visits to the Mainland to visit grandchildren. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She is survived by daughters Lorri (Uale) Leung-Wo of Kahului, Terri (Wallace) Imamura and Jamie (Scott) Shelley of Provo, Utah, and son, David (Lisa) Nitta of Wailuku. She was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Matsue Tsuya of Oahu.
The family would like to thank Hospice Maui and Hale Makua Wailuku for their outstanding compassionate care and service.
