Marvin Philip Paularena, 83
Marvin “Marv” Philip Paularena, 83, of Kahului, Maui passed away peacefully on September 1, 2018 at Maui Memorial Hospital. He was born in San Diego, CA on December 16, 1934. He served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from North Hollywood High School. He graduated from San Bernardino College and was employed as a lighting engineer in Alaska and Computer Specialist in Washington State before moving to Maui in 2002.
He was named Outstanding Older American for Maui County in 2010 for his volunteer work on Maui. He and his wife helped NOAA Humpback Whale Sanctuary, Pacific Whale Foundation, Maui Ocean Center, West Maui Kumuwai, AARP Hawaii, SMP Hawaii, Hope Chapel and Foster Grandparent Program.
Marv was predeceased by his parents Philip and Mary (Nicholls) and by his daughter Karolyn. He is survived by his wife Michele, son Alan, daughter Danielle (Bryan), granddaughter Faith, brother John (Carlota) Scales and sister Shirley (Ralph) Wetmore.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hale Makua and 5th floor Maui Memorial Hospital for their tender care and compassion for Marv.
