Michael Kaiulani Kaiwi, 63

Michael Kaiulani Kaiwi, 63, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at Maui Memorial Medical Center. He was born to Lillian Kuhaulua and adopted by Albert & Rebecca Kaiwi at the age of 3, raised in Kahakuloa.

He graduated from Baldwin High School with the Class of 1973. He was a heavy equipment operator and worked for Wailuku Sugar Company and for Hawaiian Sugar Company, which he retired from.

He loved Hawaiian music and looked forward to visits from the Faith Family Ohana. He gave his life to Jesus and trusted in Him for all things. He was a gentle giant with a big and generous heart. He will be missed.

Services over urn will be held, Friday, Nov. 9, 2018 at Faith Family Maui Church (formerly known as the Rose of Sharon), 420 North Wakea Ave. Kahului. Visitation 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Delphine Lehuanani Plunkett Kaiwi, sons Michael Jr., Jeremiah, step son, Kai Nohea Hoopai, step daughter Melecia-Kim Hoopai. Granddaughter, Angel Rebecca Noelani Kaiwi & step grandchildren: Kaimana James Hoopai, Serenity Kanoelehuanani Hoopai, Nishioka and Kamakoa Aukai Hoopai Nishioka. Sister: Rachel Moana Kaiwi Kekona Brother, Jesse Takamiya Kuhaulua Mother in Law, Verna Haunani Plunkett (James deceased) numerous nieces and nephews, and his loving dog, Ipo.

He is predeceased by parents, Albert Sr. and Rebecca Kaiwi, Lillian Kuhaulua. Brothers, Albert Kaiwi Jr. Jackie Kuhaulua, Sisters, Miriam Opu’u Kekona, Pearl Momi Koko Haili, Faye Kihoi, Rita Gragas and Leila Kuhaulua.

The Kaiwi family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jay Parikh and Dr. Guy Sugino, Home Health Care Nurses, Lorraine Kalehuawehe, Queenie DelaCruz & Arlene Kaiser Permanente, Faith Family Maui Church, Hymie Haupu & Mika “Ika” Villaren for your prayers, visits and “jam sessions” with Mike.

A private scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.
