Walter Paul Vierra, 52

Walter was born on Maui, February 26, 1967 to Gertrude (Chung) and Anthony Vierra. The youngest of seven children, he attended Lahainaluna High School, received his undergraduate degree in accounting & finance from the University of Oregon in 1989, and his law degree from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law in 1998.

Walter had a generous spirit, big heart, and a sharp mind. He was passionate about the law and returned to school to get a law degree after working as an accountant for several years, joining his older brother in private practice. He actively supported the community and was the president of the Hawai’i Canoe Racing Association at the time of his death. He worked with the Lahainaluna High School Foundation, the Lahaina Town Action Committee, and continued the work of his mother in support of the Wo Hing Society.

His parents Gertrude and Anthony Jerome and his siblings Sister Ann Gertrude and Anthony Alan Vierra preceded Walter in death. His brother Kerwin (Sue), three sisters Jo-Ellen, Rosie and Trudi (Greer), and his much-loved nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, in-laws, and friends survive him.

Walter suffered from depression, which prevented him from feeling the love of his friends and family and recognizing his value in our lives. We know he is at rest now and would like to thank all of you that helped and supported Walter.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life at Hanakao’o Park “Canoe Beach”, 2501 Honoapiilani Highway, in Lahaina on Sunday, October 20 at 9 a.m. A paddle out to scatter Walter’s ashes will occur after a short ceremony.
