Toshimasa James Nitta, 92
Toshimasa James Nitta of Wailuku, Maui, passed away on January 2, 2020 at Hale Makua in Wailuku. He was born on February 5, 1927 to Jengoro and Hisako Nitta.
Services honoring him will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1300 Maui Lani Parkway, on Monday, January 27, with visitation at 10:00 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. He will be laid to rest at Maui Memorial Park.
Toshi graduated from Baldwin High School and later enlisted in the United States Army and served as an interpreter in Japan after the end of World War II. He retired from the Hawaii State Department of Transportation, State Highways Division where he worked in quality control. During his retirement years, he enjoyed golfing and made many trips to the Mainland to visit his grandchildren. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He was predeceased by his wife, Nancy. He is survived by daughters Lorri (Uale) Leung-Wo of Kahului, Terri (Wallace) Imamura and Jamie (Scott) Shelley of Provo, Utah, and son, David (Lisa) Nitta of Wailuku. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Helen S. Ohigashi of Wailuku.
