Janet S. Wakayama, 90
Janet S. Wakayama, 90, of Kahului, passed away peacefully at Hale Makua (Kahului) on December 13, 2020.
She was born and raised in Haiku, Maui and attended Haiku School and then later attended Maui High School (Class of 1948).
After high school she attended Maui Technical School for two years where she graduated with a certificate in dressmaking.
She married her late husband, Shigeo, in June of 1953.
Janet worked for the United States Postal Service as a clerk for 40 years. She started off at the Haiku Post Office, then floated around to other post offices and finally settled at the Kahului Post Office where she retired in 1990.
Most of all, Janet was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She made sure every-one was taken cared of.
We will miss her dearly and hold cherished memories of her in our hearts forever.
Private services were held.
Janet is survived by a son, Neal (Nena) Wakayama; a daughter, Janice (Clarence) Ishizu; grandchildren, Ryan (Kimberly) Ishizu, Megan (Tyson) Suehiro, Taylor Wakayama, and Coby Wakayama; a great-grandchild, Eli Ishizu, and sisters Florence DeRego and Ethel Kawamura.
The family would like to thank Roselani Place, Hale Makua, and Islands Hospice for assisting and caring for Janet. Also, thank you to Kahului Union Church, Nakamura Mortuary, and Kahului Florist for assisting with the “Celebration of Life” Service.
