Susumu Taketa, 95
Susumu Taketa, age 95, passed away peace-fully on September 3, 2021 at his home in Wailuku. He was born on January 2, 1926 in Wailuku, Maui.
Susumu was an auto mechanic and worked at Haleakala Motors and Hertz Rent-a-Car. His hobbies were driving in the stock car races when he was young, gardening and sharing his crops with his friends and family and visiting with his friends at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission. Most of all, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was so proud of them.
He was predeceased by his parents, Hideso and Mutsuno Taketa, sisters Shizue (Toshio) Mune-kiyo, Hideko (Richard) Sakamoto, brothers Ma-saru Taketa, Kiyomi (Winifred) Taketa, and sisters-in-law Carol Taketa and Mitzi Taketa.
He is survived by his wife, Mae, daughters Colleen Versola of Maui, Sheila Taketa of Oahu, Susan (Paul) Gushiken of Maui, grandchildren, Jaymie (Charlton) Nara-yan of Nevada, Ian Fukuda of Oregon, Chloe (Andy) Harris of Utah, and great-grandchildren, Cloud, Cyth, Jenna and Joanna Narayan, and Malia Harris. He is also survived by his brothers Charles Taketa, Akio Taketa, sister-in-law, Mari Taketa and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Wailuku Hongwanji Mission, with visitation at 2:00 p.m. There will be limited seating and masks and social distancing will be required.
