Harumi Ushijima, 97
Harumi Ushijima of Kula, passed away on July 16, 2022, under the care of Hospice Maui and Hui Aloha, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 9, 1925, in Makawao to the late Komahei and Makino Takemoto.
She is pre-deceased by husband Yoshitaka, and brothers Hideo Takemoto, and Kazuo Takemoto.
Together with her late husband, they farmed cabbages and round onions for many years.
Harumi is survived by daughters: Bernice (David) Kihara, Barbara Ushijima, and Susan (Alton) Watanabe: grandchildren Kelly Ann Kihara, Jared Watanabe, and Dayna (Winston Ching) Nakasone: great grandson Kameron Ching: and brothers Susumu and Roy (Michie) Takemoto. She also leaves behind her beloved feline companion Bubba.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and volunteers of Hospice Maui and Hui Aloha for their compassionate and loving care, and Reverend Kerry Kiyohara of Makawao Hongwanji for his many visits and prayers.
Private family services were held. Nakamura Mortuary assisted with arrangements. The family requests no koden.
