Doris Marie Kenui, 63
Doris Marie Kenui of Upcounty Maui was called home to the Lord on December 3, 2022.
Doris was born to Edward and Marie (Freitas) Tavares of Upcountry Maui on December 3, 1959. She grew up in Makawao where she lived for most of her life. She graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1977. She worked for many years at Dairy Queen in Pukalani and later in Kahului. Oreo Cookie Blizzards and Chocolate Dipped Cones were always well stocked when she was supervisor. After Dairy Queen she was able to help take care of her mother before she passed away and later her husband, James Kenui before he passed away. Because of this, she determined she wanted to help take care of other people and she became a nurse aide.
In her later years, she loved cruising with her Mach 1 or 68 Mustang. She moved to the Big Island where she traded in her nursing career to open her own children’s day care. She always spoke of her appreciation for her friendships, her love for gardening and sunflowers, and how much she enjoyed moving to the Big Island. In more recent years she moved back to Maui and spent a lot of time with her best friends and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Ashley Naone (Mark Goo), 2 grand-daughters Lanamalie and Kala’i Goo, 2 sisters Darlene and Sherry Tavares, niece Amanda Kayatani and many more family and friends she held very dearly.
Her family would like to thank Hospice Maui for their support and comfort.
No services will be held at this time, but a small gathering will be held in one year from her passing.
Key characteristics of Doris was her generosity, warmth, and she loved to talk story. It is beautifully and wonderfully specific that she passed away during this season of gift giving and gatherings. We hope she is remembered with the warmth of this season.
