Louis "Baba" Kauila Houpo, of Waihe'e, Maui, entered the gates of Heaven on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. He was born on March 14, 1959 at Maui Memorial Hospital to Thomas and Mary Houpo of Waihe'e, Maui. He was a 1977 graduate of H.P. Baldwin High School. After high school, Louis enlisted with the Army active duty and when he returned to Maui, he joined the Hawai'i Army National Guard where he retired. He was last employed at Maui Chemical and TJ's, where he was known as "Pops".
Louis was preceeded in death by his parents, Thomas and Mary Houpo, brother Thomas "Kalani" Houpo, and sister Harriet Houpo and niece Baby Girl Houpo.
He is survived by his brothers Robert Houpo, Kenneth Houpo (Lyn), Herman Houpo, life companion Nalani Burke; and his nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces, and great-grand nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Nakamura Mortuary from 9am-12pm. Burial to follow at Maui Veteran's cemetery at 1:00pm.
