Hatsue Terada, of Ulupalakua, passed away peacefully at Kula Hospital on February 9, 2023. She was born on July 30, 1919 in Paia.
She survived by son, Frank, daughters Ruth and Pearl, daughters-in-law Yu Fung and Gail, sister Mitsuru (Masa) and sister-in-law Frances. Also Grandchildren Dalores (Steven), Kevin (Kaylene), Keith (Kiki), Ryan, Lance (Shari), Laurie Ann (Daniel), Denise (Randall), Camille (Alissa), Adele (Cody), David Rockett and 12 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Kunimasu and Tatsuyo Nakamura; husband, Mitsutoshi; sons, George and Donald; son-in-law Dr. Louis Rockett; brothers Masuo and Masuji; sisters, Matsue, Takeko, Umeyo and Satsuki.
Hatsue was a pioneer, a homemaker. She was a self-taught farmer and her yard was filled with a variety of vegetables, fruit trees, and a wide range of plants, including pomegranate and macadamia nut trees. Her exquisite em-broidery and crochet skills resulted in pillowcases and blankets, which she gifted to her family on Christmas. She sewed all of her five children's school clothing including khaki pants for the boys and a junior prom dress.
She worked for Ulupalakua Ranch under the ownership of Mr. Pardee Erdman and Sumner Erdman. She lived most of her life in Ulupalakua and was a part of their close-knit community for over 90 years.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Scott, Kula Hospital Third floor staff, the Activity Department staff, P.T., and Dietary for their love and compassion shown to Hatsue. Also, to Mr. Pardee Erdman, Mr. Sumner Erdman and the Ulupalakua Ranch Ohana.
Services will be on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Nakamura Mortuary. Family visitation 8:30 a.m.; Public visitation 9:00 a.m.; Services 9:30 a.m.; Private burial to follow.
