Cecilia Fukushima, 92

“Cecilia Enomoto Fukushima, a retired nurse whose career included two years at Kula Sanitorium, 23 years at St. Lukes? Hospital in New York City and three years at Maui Memorial Hospital, died peacefully on September 6, 2023 at Maui Memorial Hospital She was 92 years old.

Known as “Pisanny” or “Michan” to family and “Ciel” to close friends, she was a Maui girl who returned home to Kahului with her husband Vicente “Vince” Fukushima, whom she met in Manhattan while she was working at St. Luke?s Hospital. She retired from St. Luke?s in 1977 and Maui Memorial Hospital in 1986.

Ciel was proud of her service to the nursing profession, including the challenging duties of caring for psychiatric patients at St. Luke?s and Maui Memorial. She was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Mt. St. Joseph on-the-Ohio College in Cincinnati, Ohio.

After returning to Maui, she and Vince settled into community life. Cecilia loved to make Christmas wreaths. Their home was beautifully decorated during Christmas seasons. She also loved meeting with friends over coffee.

Cecilia Claire Mitsuko Enomoto was born on October 10, 1930 at Pu?unene Hospital, the daughter of the late David Kiyo and Mary Kamaka Enomoto. Her father worked for Kahului Railroad and her mother was a homemaker.She grew up in Kahului in a family of one sister and one brother.

As a child and high school student she was known by family and friends for her cheerful personality and helpfulness to others. She was a member of Christ the King Church which she reconnected with on her return to Maui.

In addition to her husband, Vicente, she is survived by nephews, nieces and many cousins. She was predeceased by her parents David Kiyo and Mary Kamaka Enomoto, her sister Eleanor K. Apo and brother, Edmund E. Enomoto.

Services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Christ the King Church. Viewing is at 9:00 followed by Mass at 10:30.
