Bro. Frank Anthony “Paco” Gomes, S.M.

Bro. Frank Anthony "Paco" Gomes, S.M., died as a Marianist Brother in the Society of Mary on March 13, 2024 at the age of 83 in Cupertino, Calif. Bro. Frank lived 64 years of religious life. He was born on the island of Maui in Hawaii in 1940 in the town of Makawao, the son of Frank and Lucy (De Rego) Gomes. Bro. Frank was very proud of his heritage and his parish (St. Joseph's). He was educated by the Marianists at St. Anthony's School on Maui and Chaminade University in Honolulu.

Bro. Frank was a teacher in Hawaii for 23 years, teaching religion, Spanish, and driver's education at St. Louis School, Honolulu and St. Anthony High School, Wailuku, influencing many young people over the years.

In 1986 Bro. Frank requested to go and serve the people of Mexico in the town of Apaseo el Grande, Guanajuato, working with the poor and serving for a short time as principal of the school. When he left there in 1993, he embraced Hispanic ministry and worked both in San Jose, Calif. where he helped start the Santee Mission and in the Diocese of Honolulu at various parishes where he taught ESL.

Bro. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Johnny, for whom he was the Care Giver for many years. Bro. Frank has one brother Alexander, nieces and nephews and many friends world-wide.

Funeral Services on March 25, 2024, 9:00 a.m. Viewing & 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Marianist Center Community, Cupertino Calif. A private burial service will take place at Diamond Head Cemetery in Honolulu. Memorials may be made to the Marianists, 4425 West Pine Blvd., St. Louis, Mo. 63108
