John Anthony Kidnay

John Anthony Kidnay, beloved son, husband, father, brother, and dedicated servant to his country and community, passed away on April 5, 2024, at the age of 79. Born on May 18, 1944, in California, John loved scouting, building and flying RC airplanes and riding his Harley Trike.

John's story began at Alhambra High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of achievement and service. Following his graduation, he furthered his education at Mr. Sac Jr College before embarking on a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. For two decades, John served his nation with valor and distinction, embodying the principles of duty & courage.

Upon retiring from the Air Force, John continued his life of service as a member of the Maui Police Department, where he dedicated himself to protecting and serving the community he loved.

In his well-deserved retirement, John found joy and camaraderie riding his Harley with Na Imi Loa MC Maui, embracing the freedom of the open road and the bonds of brotherhood. His adventurous spirit and zest for life were an inspiration to all who knew him.

John's greatest joy, however, lay in his family. He is survived by his son, John Michael (Satoko) Kidnay, and his daughter, Anne (Roland) Tanner. His love knew no bounds, extending to his grandchildren, Kelii, Shelby (Raven), Kahea (Cruz), Ka'iulani (Sean), Kupono & Makanalani, and great-grandchildren Tyren, Nalani, Ja-Riah, Zayden, Kaysen, Keala, and Cruz Jr. His family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

John is also survived by his sister, Kathy (Wayne) Crabb, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sue (Nakata) Kidnay, his son, Scott (Malicia) Kidnay, his parents, William Joseph and Rose Anne Popp Kidnay, and his brother, William (Cheryl) Kidnay.

Services to celebrate John's life will be held on May 1, 2024, at 6:00 pm at Kapalua Missions Church, with burial of John and Sue on May 2, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Veterans Cemetery in Makawao.
