Lawrence Aga Batan, 90, formerly of Wailuku, Maui, HI, died Thursday, 5/16/2024 in Reno, Nevada. He was born on August 10, 1933 to Claudio Batan and Manuela Aga in Wailuku, Maui, HI. He worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator stationed at the Kwajelein Atoll in the Marshall Islands for more than 14 years. Upon returning to Maui, HI, in 1974, he worked as a Chief Mechanic at the HC&S sugar mill in Puunene for 20 years until he retired in 1994. He was an avid diver and fisherman, keen photographer, and a passionate lover of the martial arts, even holding a black belt in Karate.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Bituin Davidas Panuncio Batan, two daughters, Master Sergeant Elizabeth Batan of Sacramento, CA and Marcelina Batan of Reno, NV; his former wife Elvie Puzon and three children, Cielo (Michael) Molina of Makawao, HI, Vicki (Howard) Hendrix of Calera, AL, and Lawrence (Ana) Batan of Murietta, CA; 9 grandchildren (Ian, Aimee, Kelcie, Whitney, Shelby, Skyler, Emilio, Mililani, and Ikaika), 5 great grandchildren; a sibling, Josephine Carabacan, several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings.
Visitation will be 9:00am to 12:00pm followed by funeral services at Walton's Funerals & Cremations in Reno, Nevada on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Internment will follow at Our Mother of Sorrow Catholic Cemetery in Reno, Nevada.
