Harolyn Tanji

Harolyn Miyako Tanji, 78, of Kahului, passed peacefully at home under the care of her children and Hospice Maui on August 8, 2024. Born in Kahului, Maui, on July 13, 1946, she attended St. Anthony High School and the College of Saint Teresa in Winona, Minnesota. Harolyn graduated from the nursing program at Maui Community College and spent more than 30 years as a registered nurse at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.

She spent her retirement traveling the world, regularly attending yoga classes, and spending time with family and friends. Her nursing career didn't end at retirement and she would often be the medical hotline for her children and grandchildren – hopping on a plane at a moment's notice if Nurse Harolyn was needed. Her fun-loving nature, love of all things BTS, and wise advice will be missed by friends and family.

She is survived by her son Jonathan Tanji and daughter-in-law Kristen Tanji, daughter Danica Woo, daughter Erin Tsang and son-in-law Francis Tsang, and seven grandchildren: Emily, River, Christopher, Caroline, Nicholas, Jonathan Woo, and Madeline Tsang. She is also survived by her brother Raynor (Jane) Shimoda, sister Rene Shimoda, sister Yolanda Longo, and six nieces and a nephew. She is preceded in death by her parents Harold and Shizue Shimoda and her husband Edwin Tanji.

A private celebration of life for family members will be hosted on Maui.
