Irene Chung
Irene Yuen Fung Ching Chung passed away peacefully at Kula Hospital on August 7, 2024 at the age of 101. Irene was born on September 30, 1922 at Kamaole (Kula), Maui to Kim Seu and Len Kyau Ching, the fourth of thirteen siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Mook Kui (Moon) Chung and survived by son Nelson (Charlotte) Chung, son Milton (Shu-na) Chung and daughter Lynette (Brian) Nakashima; grandchildren Christy Chung, Kenny Chung, Cody Chung, Michael Chung, Monica Chung, Kelly Nakashima; and great granddaughter Sydney Chung. Gertrude (Gertie) Ceballos and Joycelin (Didi) Chong are her remaining surviving sisters along with many nieces and nephews.
Irene enjoyed traveling, working in the garden and was a master feather lei maker. She was a devoted member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and Kwock Hing Society in Kula.
A celebration of her life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Kula on Thursday, August 29, 2024. Viewing will be at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at the church cemetery.
