Marjorie (Mardie) Miller

Marjorie “Mardie” Jean (McCallum) Miller, of Haiku, went home to Jesus on August 20th, 2024.

Born in Toronto, Canada to John and Stella McCallum, Mardie gave her life to Jesus at the age of eight. Determined to become a missionary, she graduated from the London Bible Institute in 1951. She married Thomas (Tom) Miller in 1953, and together with their young son, Gordon, set off for Malaysia where they served from 1957 through 1962. Two daughters, Eleanor and Kathleen joined the family while there. Upon return to cold Canada, they decided they preferred living somewhere closer to the equator, and began their search for a new mission. After saving and securing enough support, and adding another daughter, Eileen to the family, they were thrilled to be accepted by Hawaiian Islands Mission. The family of six moved to Maui in 1969 and all four grown children continue to reside here today.

Mardie raised her children, sold Avon, worked as a plantation nurse with Dr. Withers and as a medical receptionist to Dr. Bird at the Maui Clinic. Mardie later moved to the Maui Medical Group in Wailuku, and then worked part-time for Island Hope Church in Paia.

Mardie is predeceased by her husband, Thomas. She is survived by her son, Gordon (Tess) Miller, daughters, Eleanor (Gary) Kondo, Kathleen Ageton, and Eileen (James) Kusakabe, and hanai daughter, Ione (David) Nobriga. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Aaron, Rachel, Naomi, Brandon, Owen, Elyse, Danei, and John, and by ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 2024, at Waipuna Chapel, 17 Omaopio Road, in Kula. Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m., services at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Valley Isle Memorial Park in Haiku at 2 p.m.

The family would like to thank Hospice Maui, and especially nurse Trevor, for going the extra mile in making Mom’s last week on earth bearable. Ann Craddock, APRN, Leslie and Anna of Pukalani Family Practice, for loving us through to the end, and Maui Adult Daycare, Oceanview, for taking such fine care of Mom over these last months. To all of Mom’s friends at Hale Mahaolu Eha, thank you for the blessing of our last time together. A hui hou!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC), a favorite charity of Mardie’s at www.febc.org.
