Rufina Abut
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Rufina Andres Abut, who peacefully transitioned into the heavens on July 1st, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on February 28, 1937, in Binalonan, Pangasinan, Philippines.
In 1957, Rufina immigrated to the island of Molokai, where she lived with her late husband, Fernandico Abut. A devout Catholic since childhood, Rufina continued to embrace her faith throughout her life in Hawaii, passionately teaching religious education on the friendly isle. Rufina eventually moved to Maui in 1983, where she worked at the Maui Marriott Hotel until her retirement.
Sundays were a cherished time for Rufina, as she devotedly served as a Eucharistic Minister at Maria Lanakila Catholic Church. Here, she connected with her friends in Christ at various masses, creating lasting bonds and friendships within the community.
Retirement only added more vibrancy to Rufina's life. She embarked on religious pilgrimage tours across Europe, collecting cherished artifacts, and regaling family and friends with tales of her travels. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking and gardening, lovingly sharing the fruits of her labor – a true testament to her selfless nature, acts of service were genuinely her love language.
Rufina leaves behind a loving legacy and is survived by her siblings: Emiliano Andres, Florentino Andres Sr., Aida Tambo, Victor Carnate, Venancio Carnate, Teresita Jacang, Renato Carnate, and Laurita Ursua, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Fernandico Abut, and sisters, Lolita Nava and Leonora Carnate.
We invite you to celebrate Rufina's life and faith at her Memorial Service on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Sacred Hearts Mission Church in Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii. Visitation will commence at 9:00 AM, followed by mass at 11:00 AM. The Burial Service will take place at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery – Main at 2:00 PM.
Though our hearts ache at her passing, we find solace in the knowledge that Rufina's unwavering faith has led her to eternal peace in the arms of the Lord she loved and served.
