James Ampong

James Ampong, 95 of Lahaina, Maui passed away peacefully with family by his side at Hospice Maui. He was born on November 10, 1928, in Lahaina to the late Melanio Ampong and Antonia Quinones.

Visitation will be held from 9 - 11am on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at Ballard Family Mortuary. The eulogy will begin at 11am with burial to follow at 1pm at the Maui Veteran's Cemetery in Makawao.

James was a veteran of the United States Army and the Hawaii National Guard with a combined service time of 32 years. During the height of the Vietnam War he was ordered to active duty to Schofield Barracks with the 29th Infantry Brigade. One of his passions was aikido at the Lahaina Hongwanji Aikido Club where he earned two black belts. He also very much enjoyed spending time with family, going on walks, working in the yard and picking mangoes from his trees.

James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Katherine Lacaran Ampong, and siblings Benjamin Ampong, Barbara Ampong; and Elsie Ampong-Potts. He is survived by his 5 children, Jeffrey Ampong (Josalinda), Paulette Ampong, Jason Ampong (Sally), Claudette "Lani" Fraser (Rod) and Tonia Ampong (Noa), and 17 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
