Sumiko Iwamura

Sumiko was born in Lahaina in 1929 to Masuichi and Otei Shinagawa of Lahaina. She is predeceased by her husband Rocky S Iwamura and daughter Annie T Conant. Sumiko is survived by son Nathan (Clarita) Iwamura, grandson Vincent; sisters Florence Aoki (Teruo deceased), and Elaine Shinagawa; nieces and nephews and ohana on Maui, Oahu and the mainland (USA).

A passionate student of minyo, Japanese folk dances, and bon odori, she danced until mobility issues sidelined her.

Also, an avid craftsperson, Sumiko created leis, necklaces, and earrings and could always count on ohana to man her tables along Lahainaluna Road during graduation season and at craft fairs.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to relatives and friends who visited and kept in touch with her; to the staffs at Hale Makua Wailuku and Maui Health Hospital who patiently tended to her needs and requests.

Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, December 12, 2024, 10:30 AM at the Kahului Hongwanji Mission, 291 S Puunene Avenue, Kahului, Maui.
