Gary Yasuo Matoi

Gary Yasuo Matoi, age 80, passed away at Maui Memorial Medical Center in Wailuku, on Sunday November 10th 2024. He was born on July 9th 1944, in Paia, to Susumu and Shizue Matoi. He graduated from Maui High School class of ’62 and was married to Judith Ueoka his wife of 52 years.

His work as a principal and gifted educator was felt by all his students and staff. After serving as administrator at several schools he retired as Principal of Kahului Elementary School in 2002. He found enjoyment in hunting, watching UH sports, and working on home improvements with his sons.

He leaves behind wife Judith, sons Ross and Grant, their wives Arlene and Priscilla, and grandsons Matthew and Nicholas. “We all miss you dearly” .

Thank you to the doctors and nurses who helped us to have a little more time with him. Thank you to Hale Makua and Hospice Maui for their compassionate care.
