Gwendolyn Bailey

Gwendolyn Ewalani Bailey passed away on Friday December 6, 2024, at Maui Memorial Medical Center. Born in Honolua Bay on March 11, 1941, and raised in Lahaina, Maui. Parents Henry & Mary Shim brothers & sisters Stanley, Gilbert, Rodney, Leona & Roylen. Predeceased by Adrian, Gerald, Michael, Beverly & Renet.

Mom was a ONE of a kind soul and the last of her kind in the family. Ewalani loved to help her community, family, children and husband. Retiring from Twin Pine Saving, Berkely & Lokelani Intermediate School as Head Custodian.

Ewalani was an amazing Genealogist dating the family back to the royal family. She spoke too so many daily and that her phone was her best friend!

Mom was also very involved with her Hawaiian Culture and a member to many organizations and groups. Just to name a few Na Kupuna O Lokelani, Na Kupuna O Maui, Aha Hui Kaahumanu, Hale O Na Alii, Hui No Ke Ola Pono, Alu Like, the Chinese Club, Habitat for Humanity, Hawaiian Community Chorus, Ka Hale A Ke Ola and the Royal Order of Kamehameha. Gwendolyn was very active in the community, and she helped with the Sovereignty for the people of Hawaii. Naming Gwendolyn for many of her personal achievements like learning to speak Hawaiian, feather lei making, playing the ukulele, and building her own home in Waiehu with the help of Habitat for Humanity. She has earned many awards and recognition throughout her time on earth, and she will be missed by MANY….

Ewalani Shim Bailey is survived by Husband Frederick Bailey (his 4 kids),

her son Rennie Kealii DePrue , her Twin Daughter Rene Noelani DePrue

6 Grandchildren Brittannye, Brandon, Renelle, Cheyann, Chase & Katrya

7 Great Grandchildren Brandon, Julian, Alexa, Jayce, Brooklyn Skye, Keanu & Baby Mahina

Hanai family she raised Momi, Sonny, Tammy, Corrina & Corey.

Mom will join in Heaven her beautiful, gorgeous & wonderful twin daughter Renet Kaleo DePrue.

We will miss you & Love you Forever

Services & visitation will be held at Nakamura Mortuary on January 18, 2025. Public visitation will begin at 9:45am.

Burial to follow at 12:30 in Maui Memorial Park.

Luncheon will be at Kalama Beach Park Pavillion.
