Jeane Biddle Coleman Raine

Grandma Jeane Raine went home to be with the Lord, and her loved ones who have gone on before her, on Dec 9, 2024. She passed away at her home in Kihei, Maui surrounded by family and her dear friend, Connie Pluchos.
Jeane was born Jeane Lavonne Biddle in Fort Morgan, CO on June 3, 1926 to Ira (Ike) C. Biddle and Georgia F. Biddle. The family moved to Lynwood, CA then relocated to Downey, CA when Jeane was in fifth grade. She graduated from Downey High School with the class of 1944, where she was editor of the yearbook and a cheerleader. During her high school years, she was a soda jerk at Briggs Candy Store. The Briggs staff packaged candy and cigarettes to ship care packages overseas to Downey servicemen, including Bill Coleman, Bill VanMatre, and Jimmy Moore. After high school, she attended Long Beach City College and went on to graduate from UCLA with her teaching credential. She taught fifth grade in Downey.
She married William E. Coleman on December 16, 1949, with whom she had three children, William R. Coleman, Daniel R. Coleman, and Carrie J. Coleman Williams. The family lived on Fifth Street in Downey in a home built by her husband Bill. Over the years, she was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Downey, Rotary Club, and PTA. She served as secretary for the Cardiac and Respiratory Lab at Rio Hondo Hospital. She cared for her parents Ira and Georgia Biddle in her home for several years.
Later in life, on April 30, 1995, she married Eugene Raine and they were affectionately known as the ‘pair of Jeans’. They resided in Huntington Beach and were members of St. Peter’s By-the-Sea Church. In 2013, she and her husband Gene moved to Kihei on the island of Maui to live with her daughter Carrie. They became active in the Kihei Lutheran Church.
Throughout her life, Jeane spread joy in church and community with her love of singing. She enjoyed singing in the church choirs in Downey, Huntington Beach, and Kihei. At the First Presbyterian Church of Downey, she led the children’s choir, which included her young sons Randy and Danny. In the 1980s, she traveled to Europe, singing and touring with the Chorale Society of Southern California. She also sang at Carnegie Hall in New York City with the Chorale Society. On Maui, she sang with the Maui Chamber Orchestra, performing at the Maui Art and Cultural Society.
She is survived by her children Wm. Randy (Kim), Daniel (Piya), and Carrie; her grandchildren Katie (Nathan), Kristin (Andrew), Candace (Joe), and Ryan; her great-grandchildren Noa and Jonah (who lovingly called her GiGi); her nieces Debby, Dianne, Dona, and Suzan; and many extended family members.
Throughout her life, Jeane never missed a Sunday to dress up, put on her makeup and attend church. She remained active in her later years, loved to cook for family and friends and wouldn’t miss a night out for dinner at Cafe O’Lei or Ruth Chris. She was a social butterfly, loved people and never met a stranger. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.
Services will be held on March 8, 2025 at 3pm at Kihei Lutheran Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on March 9, 2025 at 3pm at Auntie Kali’s Cottage.
