Roy Akira Otani Sr

Roy Akira Otani Sr., 81, of Pukalani, Maui, passed away at his home on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 9, 1943, in Wailuku, Maui.

A devoted man of faith, Roy was a longtime member of King’s Cathedral, a respected General Contractor, and honorably served in the National Guard and the United States Army as an Infantry Weaponsman. Through his business, Otani Construction, he built not only homes but also lasting relationships, always known for his integrity, generosity, and hard work. His love for storytelling, his deep commitment to his family, and his unwavering faith defined his life.

He is survived by his children: Roy “Matthew” Akira Otani Jr., Demaries “Dee-Dee” Otani (William Kekona), and Chiamei “Amy” Salcedo (Roland Salcedo); his cherished grandchildren: Cymberlyn, Matthew Boy, Matt-lyn, Tyree, Stanelle, Jordyn, Tehya, Jonah, Bri-Ann, Shyla-Ann “Ashley,” Shanice “Niecy,” Kalub, Cyrilla, Mark “Jr. Boy,” Micah, and Katelyn; as well as 40 great- grandchildren. Roy’s legacy lives on through his children and grandchildren, who carry forward his values of hard work, faith, and family.

A service to honor and celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at King’s Cathedral, 777 Maui Veterans Hwy, Kahului. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Maui Veterans Cemetery in Makawao. Roy will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his memory and the impact of his life will remain in the hearts of many.
